Portfolio Development Youth Accepted to Top NY Art Schools

A resounding success in its pilot year, Groundswell’s Portfolio Development program has actively facilitated the acceptance of three of our youth to key art schools in New York and one to art school in Washington State. Portfolio Development is a new program that guides Groundswell youth who are interested in pursuing careers in the arts through the process of putting together a portfolio for application to art school. Youth are taken through every stage of creating and documenting new artwork, researching schools and scholarships and applying to the schools of their choice. Long-term Groundswell participants Angel Garcia, Nico Kohler and Sophia Dang all were accepted into their first choices for art schools in New York (Angel to FIT, Nico to SUNY Purchase, Sophia to NYU). Ivan Jacobson was accepted to his first choice for art school in Washington State (Evergreen College).

All four will continue working with Groundswell in our upcoming Summer Leadership Institute, before starting college in the fall.
