PORTFOLIO PARTICPANTS ACCEPTED TO TOP NYC ART SCHOOLS

We are pleased to announce that Portfolio Program participants Stephan Tripari and Diana Yun have been accepted to two top New York City Art Schools. Stephan has been accepted to Pratt Institute and Diana to Cooper Union, both starting as freshmen this fall.

This spring, we piloted Groundswell’s Portfolio Intensive, a concentrated skill-building workshop in painting and drawing for the most serious and dedicated students, laying down the foundations to prepare them for building portfolios for admission to art colleges. Part of our year-round Portfolio Program, the intensive ran for four days during Spring Break. Eight students worked at Groundswell’s studio to develop their painting and drawing skills. Taking advantage of the unseasonably warm spring weather, the group spent a day drawing from monuments in Brooklyn’s Greenwood Cemetery. Completing the week, the students returned to the New York Academy of Art for a day long figure-drawing session, which was complemented by a tour of the studios.

Special thanks to the New York Academy of Art: Cori Beardsly (for her assistance in running the figure-drawing session) Elvin Freytes and John Cichowski for making the Academy’s resources available. Special thanks to Sue Evans from the Rolin Foundation, for bringing Groundswell together in partnership with the New York Academy of Art and to NYSCA, the New York State Council on the Arts, whose funding makes this program possible.
