TEMA: TEEN EMPOWERMENT MURAL APPRENTICESHIP

TEMA1

Mondays TEMA are currently painting a four-panel mural cycle for the conference room at the offices of Black Veterans for Social Justice in Brooklyn. Imagery on the panels is drawn from meetings and suggestions from black veterans, who met with the group to explain the organizations history and mission. Artists Leslie Smith and Menshahat Ebron are leading the team of apprentice artists in painting the four brightly colored panels, which will be installed and dedicated in May.

TEMA@

Wednesdays TEMA are busily preparing a series of large-scale mosaic panels for installation on the exterior entrance to BRC’s (Bowery Residents' Committee) Senior Citizen Center at the Sarah Roosevelt Park in Chinatown, Manhattan. Working with artists Clare Herron and Edwin Vasquez, the group incorporated local architectural features into the design, which also includes imagery from Chinese culture suggested by the residents of the center. The three 9 x 5 ft panels were installed in May and will be dedicated in June.
