Special Projects Associate
September 2008- August 2009
Groundswell Community Mural Project is an eleven year old Brooklyn based nonprofit organization. Groundswell brings together
professional artists, grassroots organizations and communities in partnership to create high quality murals in under-represented
neighborhoods.  Our work inspires youth, communities and artists to take active ownership of their future and equips them with the
tools necessary for social change. We work city wide with a special focus on Brooklyn.  More information is available at
Special Projects Associate
Groundswell is currently accepting applications for Special Projects Associate.  We are a fast growing, nationally acclaimed grassroots
organization with a current budget of $650,000. The position offers a great opportunity to play a central role in a dynamic, creative
organization that makes an impact on NYC’s youth and communities. 
This yearlong position is made possible by a federal grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service
AmeriCorps*VISTA Program in partnership with a local community based organization.  The position is designed for motivated
individuals who are committed to social justice work and are interested in gaining valuable nonprofit job experience.  The position is
full-time for one year. The Special Projects Associate will work closely with the Executive Director.
Responsibilities: The Special Projects Associate will help build organizational capacity through various efforts including: setting up
human resources systems, improving board function and increasing fundraising abilities. Specific responsibilities will include
involvement in our annual art auction benefit, developing written materials for newsletters, assisting in evaluating and analyzing
program impact, assisting Executive Director in strategic planning process. This position is great for somebody interested pursuing a
career in non-profit management, development and/or arts and youth services.
Qualifications: 
In order to serve as an AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old and a US Citizen, national or legal permanent
resident alien of the U.S; and may not be enrolled in more than one course or hold outside employment during the year term.  You
must be able to commit to fulltime work during the year term.  In addition, we are looking for applicants with some or all of the following
qualifications:
o
Well-organized, detail oriented and highly motivated,
o
Interest in non-profit fundraising.
o
Interest in writing/ layout design.
o
Able to work in diverse, collaborative environment.
o
Microsoft Office Skills.
o
Post-secondary / college education a plus.
o
Eagerness and ability to learn new skills.
o
Commitment to Groundswell’s mission of arts as a tool for social justice in New York City.
Compensation/Schedule: The Communications & Fundraising Associate will receive $921 per month living stipend ($11,052 per year
before taxes, paid biweekly).  At the end of year, the Associate will receive a $4,725 education award that can be used for future tuition
or educational debt expenses.  The position includes basic health insurance coverage and a monthly unlimited Metrocard. Special
Projects Associate is expected to work four days/week, hours are somewhat flexible.
