Inside Out Project: Red Hook

Join Groundswell and Times Square Arts, the public arts program of Times Square Alliance, for French artist JR’s global initiative INSIDE OUT PROJECT. This large-scale participatory art project invites New Yorkers and visitors to take self-portraits in a specially designed photo booth.

The initial portraits will feature community members from New York City neighborhoods affected by Hurricane Sandy—the Staten Island waterfront, the Rockaways, Red Hook, and Coney Island.

On Saturday, April 20, Groundswell youth and INSIDE OUT PROJECT will host a Photo Booth Truck in Red Hook. The black-and-white self-portraits will be overlaid on a backdrop designed by JR and printed on the spot as a 3’X4’ poster. The posters will either be displayed in Times Square or in the home community of the portrait’s subject.

Don’t miss your chance to express through your face a message to the world.
