On the wall

A Long Way from Home

"I Just Want To Come Home," a new mural created in Bushwick by an all-male team of Groundswell artists, offers itself as a contemporary blues piece.

In the second of two exclusive videos about the work - presented by Thirteen WNET - the young men discuss how this  project inspired them as activists and artists.

"Working on this mural inspired me to see how a visual piece can create a bridge between social and political issues," one of the young men said.

The work stretches across the wall in a worried note. The artists yearn for a city free from aggravated encounters among young men of color and the police, declaring plainly "I Just Want To Come Home."

Watch the video and share their call for action on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #groundswellnyc.

Open opportunities for future youth artists by making a gift to Groundswell today.
