An Update on our Summer Murals

Categories: Youth Programs

Groundswell’s Summer Leadership Institute is well underway!

If you haven’t had a chance to join us yet for a public event, we hope you will come out next week for our free public mural tour.

The tour will be held on Tuesday, August 12 from 11am to 2pm.

To RSVP, please email press@groundswellmural.org.

If you can’t join us, we are excited to share a few highlights from our summer to date.

In July, Groundswell's studio was infused with the energy of art critique.

Sixteen lead and assistant artists gathered together, to share the preliminary mural design sketches our SLI teams developed during the first three weeks of the murals.

Over four hours, the artists questioned, challenged, and inspired one another.

The compositions are among some of Groundswell's most powerful murals created to date.

o A mother cradles her child, reminding us of the potential costs of driving while intoxicated.

o A man in recovery holds a ball of light in his hands to guide him back to love, hope, and family.

o A woman pours herself a pure glass of water, safely stewarded from the Catskills to her faucet.

In July, we also hosted Public Design Sharings and Community Painting Days around New York City.

Hundreds of you came out and joined our youth artists to share your thoughts on the mural designs in process or add your touch to the painting of walls.

To view pictures from these and other great SLI activities to date, check out our albums on Facebook.

We hope you will also visit our Event Calendar and save the date for our upcoming mural dedications.
